Sometimes Beauty Hurts
Yesterday I was outside deadheading flowers and came upon my peonies which were so heavy they had fallen over on the ground...I said I can't let such beauty lay unnoticed on the dirt so I will cut them and take them inside for us to enjoy.....I had cut the first bunch, then the second and as I was pulling a weed which had found it's way into the beauty of my flower bed when I felt a sting to the thumb joint on my right hand...and a big black hornet zoomed right by my arm.......Outch....I retreived my hand to find a red spot that was hurting really bad.....I came inside, gently laid the flowers on the kitchen island and put ice on my thumb....I thought oh no, this thing is really hurting and starting to swell alittle and turn red......well to make a long story short, it's still sore this morning and alittle swollen and red but now it's itching....so it's covered in cortizone cream and I have learned three very important lessons....DON'T GO WORKING IN A FLOWER BED WITHOUT GOOD GLOVES ON YOUR HANDS...... PAIN CAN COME OUT OF BEAUTY........AND MAKE SURE I HAVE SOME SNUFF ON HAND FOR THE NEXT BITE (THAT'S A MOUNTAIN REMEDY FOR HORNET AND WHASP STINGS......

Hi Nancy, you are so right about beautiful can sometimes hurt. Your Peonies are the same color as some of mine...hate when the flop over on the ground...I put some yarn around them with a little stake so they stand up better...BTW thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. (((hugs)))

ReplyDeleteI was hurting for you until I saw the oh so beautiful peonies in your photo, then I turned from saying oh to ahhhhhh! Oh the pains of becoming beautiful! It once again reminds me of the verse about the potter and God molding us into a beautiful creation, after all the pain and imperfections.

your peonies are gorgeous.....but i don't know if it's worth the sting on your thumb.....yikes!! i guess it goes to show that a good deed (pulling the peonies out of the dirt to share their beauty) never goes unpunished....! xox, :))

I need to tell you, you are soooooooo right, when it comes to Beauty turns into hurt, but then it heals and beauty remains. I'm sorry you were stung .."ouch".

ReplyDeleteI was bitten by a spider in my garden a few years ago, and ended up in the hospital. A recluse spider...I have been a recluse from working in my garden ever since. We live in the woods, so we have lots of scary critters, including a yellow jacket who insists on hanging out in my mailbox.
Your blog is lovely I was peeking around, I love your work, it is beautiful. Journaling has always been a favorite thing of mine too.

ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you for your very kind comments! The peonies here have fallen over in yesterday's storm, but they smell sooooo good! I'm feeling your painful bee sting, ouch! Hope it feels better tomorrow AND stops itching.(Itching is the worst, isn't it?)
